My Story
I'm Sheila Fredriksen, Expert Holistic Manicurist, Creator of NONTOXIQUE holistic skin care, Author of My Perspectives, and the creator of reThinkSpa, an innovative and practical training tool for creating a healthy cohesive spa team and unbeatable client experience.
I became a Manicurist in 1997, always specializing in natural nail care. But by 2005 I developed numerous health issues, forcing me to leave the businesss. In 2006 a blood test linked those issues directly to the lotions, lacquers and other products I spent years using. Devasted, I began to learn more about how what we use on our skin impacts our health from dermal absorption to inhalation.
In the process I also discoverd that very few products were truly active and beneficial, and most brands are intentionally deceptive but have incredible budgets for beautifully scripted marketing to pull off those deceptions. More upsetting was the realization that most spas and manicurists are poorly trained, behind on education and clueless about proper protocols.
After heavy detoxing I returned to work late 2007 offering the first nutrition based hand and foot treatments in Minnesota. And unlike others who claim they were suddenly enlightened and cared enough to create a 'safe' product, when really they've private labled an existing product and just waited for the dollars to roll in, I did care.
It was not just about my livelyhood, it was about my own personal health. Just months after returning to work I began my pursuit of a new kind of hand, foot, and nail care and connected with a renowned Holistic Chemist to create the first authentically natural, 100% active luxurious skin care for the industry along with proper protocols.
Now, our streamlined system of products, along with the innovative business building tools of reThinkSpa help recreate a properly educated and cohesive team that delivers an exciting and healthy spa experience that clients seek.

Everything used to create something is chemical. Our bodies are made up of chemical compounds. To have made something that is 'Chemical-free' is to have made nothing at all. You want plant sourced chemicals, not synthetic man-made chemicals.

Brand Deception Checklist
You've been deceived and we want you to see for yourself. Use this list to 'verify' other brands and learn just how much they knowingly fail to deliver on their so-called 'natural' and healthy claims.
With my expertise as a holistic manicurist, and eye for discernment in label deciphering and claim honesty, I've created a checklist to help guide you in determining product authenticity for you and your clients.
1. Are all claims truthful, and honest?
With natural claims, are 100% of the ingredients real plant parts, not derived from?
2. Do they use deceptive marketing claims?
Organic, hypoallergenic, made with organic, Infused with organic, and Vegan are just some of the many meaningless claims used for emotional appeal. None guarantee a pure natural product, or mean it is safe.
3. Do they deliver healthy long-term results?
Or do they contribute to tumors, skin cancer, or speed skin aging?
4. Is the product relevant or appropriate?
You wouldn't use a body butter on your face so why do it to your hands when they actually age first?
5. Are the ingredients age-defying?
Do they utilize nutrition to preserve skin and cell health?
6. Do they use skin sensitizers or ingredients that cause dangerous byproduct ingredients not listed?
Ingredients that sensitize the skin such as citric acid, sodium hydroxide (used in draino to dissolve hair), preservatives, perfumes or dyes? Toxic ingredient combinations such as citric acid and sodium benzoate, which when used together create the leukemia causing byproduct "benzene", a commonly solvent used in the printing industry. Hint: look closer at popular "vegan" nail brands, they do.
7. Do they focus on nutrition?
Simple. Nutrients including vitamins, minerals, omega acids etc.
8. Do they use contain harsh or synthetic preservatives?
Examples are Phenoxyethanol (a nervous system toxicant in any dose, reproductive toxicant and trigger for dermititis), Parabens (linked to many cancers), BHA (highly toxic), formaldehdye (linked to cancer), sesquioleate, etc. Hint: look closely at all nail brands, they do.
9. Do they specialize in hand, foot and nail skin care?

Few brands in any cosmetic category are.

Why is it important that your hand treatments, and client home care start with a cleanser?
Because healthy hands start with clean hands and we believe in a foundation consistent throughout your entire hand care. We also know how easily germs are spread in the nail department so starting with hands washing is just smart.
FACT: Germs adhere to the skin through static electricity and requires a good lather to help break those static bonds, not the use of harsh chemicals.
Our Hand Cleanser is the beginning of a healthy hand care routine, carefully thought out for daily use in the spa and at home. Our unique foaming system dispenses a rich, luxurious and natural antibacterial plant blend to help break static bonds, washing away germs and dirt naturally.

A peek at what they do
Elemi - from the botanical family of frankincense and myrrh, is used to rejuvenate and firm aging skin.
Myrrh - from the Myrrh tree in Africa, it is used to nourish and strengthen the nails as well as heal and rejuvenate chapped, wrinkled and mature skin.
Coconut oil - is highly antibacterial, oxidation resistant, provides effective antifungal protection and is excellent for moisturizing the skin.
Sweet orange essential oil - is anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, bactericidal, fungicidal, helps with wrinkles, softens thick fissured, and cracked skin, strengthens the epidermis, increases circulation, cell hydration, calms skin gland function, and supports regeneration.
Useful Tip:
Be sure to spend at least 30 seconds massaging cleanser into hands, creating a rich foam to completely break the static bonds holding germs to your hands.
Always keep your travel size in your bag - from the gym, to work, nights out to dinner, your diaper bag and traveling!
03 Herbal Scrub exfoliate. smooth. reveal.
Why is a sugar based exfoliating scrub for your hands and feet so important?
Because healthy glowing skin depends on regular cellular turnover, allowing your nutrient rich hand, and foot care optimal absorption to keep skin healthy. Exfoliation is a must for ideal results from your products.
FACT: Natural cellular shedding slows down in your thirties causing skin to look dull, also interfering with product absorption.

Anise seed - an aromatic Middle Eastern herb known to trigger sensual feelings in women, aids in exfoliating and provides an exotic aroma.

Moisten scrub in palms before applying to hands and arms, or legs and feet. Make sure you work the scrub until the sugar is completely dissolved for full benefits.

Why a serum for the hands and feet?
Because supple, healthy appearing hands, and tops of the feet reflect adequate hydration and healthy collagen. Being endlessly exposed to the elements, they are in a constant battle for maintained hydration, nutrition and UV protection, winter and summer.

A Peek at what they do
Mango butter - is high in essential fatty acids and antioxidants that support youthful skin, and it has been successful in minimizing fine lines and wrinkles. It is also suspected of offering natural UV protection.
Buriti oil - is loaded with essential fatty acids, vitamin-C and is one of the richest sources of beta carotene. It is known to improve elasticity in mature skin, protect skin from free radical damage and is suspected of high levels of natural UV protection.
Gotu kola, Comfrey, Ginseng, Alfalfa, Safge, Turmeric - are herbs known to be effective in reversing early aging signs and speed wound healing.
Kiwi seed extract - is rich in antioxidants, more so than green tea. It contains high levels of vitamin-C, omega-3 fatty acids (alpha-linoleeic acid), improves skin radiance and reduces the appearance of fine lines. Studies have shown it to be effective in brightening the skin, and it is also part of our preservative system.
Mowrah butter - prevents skin drying, hinders the development of wrinkles, reduces degeneration and helps restore skin's flexibility.
Avocado oil - is loaded with sterolins, which are known for reducing uneven pigmentation and the anti-inflammatory chlorophyll, which also gives it its green color. It is loaded with vitamins A & K and contains lesser amounts of B1, 2 & 6, C, D & E. It also contains amino acids important for collagen synthesis, and essential fatty acids important for cell health and skin suppleness. Contains biotin and phosphorous which are necessary for healthy nails and selenium, which is an important antioxidant in maintaining tissue elasticity and providing UV protection. It is excellent for mature skin, sun damaged skin and those with eczema or psoriasis.
Grapefruit seed extract - is a natural preservative. Ours is not contaminated with benzethonium or benzalkonium chloride, triclosan, arsenic or encapsulated in parabens like most.

Why is a nutrient rich cuticle and nail balm important a must have for nail care?
Because it protects the nails and tissues from excessive drying and moisture imbalance, provides tissues the nourishment they need, and adds to and protects nail suppleness. It is also highly anti-inflammatory and protects against bacteria.
FACT: Nails can absorb up to 25% of their weight in water, affecting the natural moisture and oil balance, causing keratin fibers to swell, split and nails to chap.
Cuticle & Nail Balm is the first nail treatment to provide nutrition the nails and eponychium needs and important protection from moisture loss, or intrusion, maintaining overall nail health and strength. Quickly absorbing and performance based, our Balm is loaded with antioxidants to fight free radicals and sooth inflammation of the eponychium, vitamin-C to help minimize hangnails, amino & essential fatty acids for nail health, growth and suppleness. It also provides a protective film on the nails surface acting as a moisture barrier and nail strengthener.
Our massage-in delivery method is important because it increases blood circulation, helping to more effectively move oxygen and nutrients to the nail bed, promoting healthier nail growth - something brush on treatments cannot do.

What they do
Kiwi seed extract - is rich in antioxidants more so than green tea, contains high levels of vitamin-C, which are helpful in minimizing hangnails.
Cocoa butter - is excellent for providing moisture, smoothness and suppleness to the eponychium and the nail. Its high cocoa mass polyphenols also inhibits the production of immuno-globulin IgE, which is known to aggravate symptoms of dermatitis, making this a great ingredient for anyone with issues such as nail/hand eczema and psoriasis.
Myrrh - is excellent for nourishment, is rich in antibacterial properties for wound healing, and its resinous nature adds to both nail strength and moisture protection.
Avocado oil - is loaded with natural anti-inflammatory chlorophyll, which is great for soothing inflammed eponychium and also gives it its natural green color. It is loaded with vitamins A & K, biotin and phosphorous, which are necessary for healthy nails.
Coconut oil - is an effective natural antibacterial and antifungal, fending off unwanted bacteria from the nails and eponychium. It is rich in essential fatty acids, is oxidation resistant and is excellent for moisturizing and softening eponychium.
Using your index finger, apply a small dab to the entire nail and cuticle area, spending at least 10 seconds per nail massaging in. Wait 5 minutes before immersing in water.
Always apply before enjoying water sports, gardening or foot treatments at the spa.
